What is Kan?

Kan offers the kanban experience people know from Trello: boards with lists and cards, labels and filters, comments and an activity log for every card. Workspaces let you invite members and control who can view or edit each board, and you can import existing Trello boards to switch quickly. It is built with TypeScript and runs with PostgreSQL, with a hosted version available. 9 translations of the interface are available.

Good fit if

  • You are leaving Trello and want a familiar board you host yourself.
  • You need simple visibility rules for boards across a team.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want more views, like Gantt and calendar: Kaneo or Vikunja.
  • You want a long-established board: WeKan.

Before you adopt it

Kan moved from GPL-3.0 to AGPL-3.0 in June 2025, so modified versions you run as a service must share their source. About 15 people contributed in the last three months.
