What is MediaCMS?

MediaCMS builds a small to medium video portal for an organization. Media can be public, private, unlisted or follow custom workflows, and role-based access control groups users with view or edit rights. It transcribes video automatically with a locally run Whisper model, trims clips, offers playlists, categories and tags, live search and embed codes. SAML handles single sign-on, and LTI 1.3 plus a Moodle plugin bring media into learning platforms. A REST API is included, and the interface ships in 56 languages.

Good fit if

  • Your school or company needs an internal video library with permissions instead of a paid video host.
  • You want media embedded in Moodle or another LMS.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want public video channels that federate with other servers: PeerTube.
  • You want a personal library for films and shows: Jellyfin.

Before you adopt it

MediaCMS is AGPL-3.0 and contains no paid parts. One developer writes nearly all the code, with two others helping. Docker Compose runs it with PostgreSQL, Redis and Celery workers, and transcoding needs adequate CPU.
