What is Claude Code Router?

Claude Code Router gives coding agents one stable local endpoint, while you decide behind it which provider and model handles each request. It supports Claude Code, Claude Design, Codex, Grok CLI, Kimi CLI, Kilo Code, OpenCode and other compatible clients, and lets you set routing rules, fallbacks when a provider fails, accounts and tools from one app. Every request can be observed, so you see which model answered and what it cost.

Good fit if

  • You want Claude Code's interface with other models, or a mix of models per task.
  • You need automatic failover when one provider is down or rate-limited.

Look elsewhere if

  • You just want to switch providers by hand and manage MCP settings: CC Switch.
  • You need a gateway for a whole company with budgets and keys: LiteLLM.

Before you adopt it

Claude Code Router is MIT-licensed and free. Roughly 70% of its commits come from the creator. Check each provider's terms before routing an agent's traffic through accounts it was not built for.
