What is Agenta?

Agenta lets a team describe a job in conversation, connect the apps it needs and correct the agent until it does the work well. Agents keep memory, write their own skills and get a sandboxed browser and file system per session. Automations start them on a schedule or when something happens in a connected app, and every run is traced with its cost. Connections go through MCP or through Composio, which the README says covers more than 1,000 apps. Models can be hosted APIs, an existing Claude or ChatGPT subscription, or local ones via Ollama.

Good fit if

  • Non-engineers on your team should be able to set up agents for support, sales, HR or finance chores.
  • You want recurring work handled by agents that decide the steps themselves, with per-agent permissions and an audit trail.
  • People already work in Slack, Telegram or WhatsApp Business and should talk to agents there.

Look elsewhere if

  • Your processes are predictable and you would rather draw each step in a visual flow: n8n or Activepieces.
  • You need an agent that writes code for you; the README says Agenta is not built for that.

Before you adopt it

Code outside the ee folders is MIT, while those folders, including the enterprise Docker Compose and Kubernetes setups, carry a separate license tied to paid features. Agenta asks contributors to sign a CLA. The company Agentatech runs the project, and in the last 90 days two people wrote all of the commits. It runs with Docker, and a Helm chart is included for Kubernetes; Agenta Cloud is the hosted option.
